1. Who we are

WorthTheDrive (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the fuel price comparison website at worththedrive.co.uk. For the purposes of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, WorthTheDrive is the data controller for personal data processed through this website.

Contact: hello@worththedrive.co.uk

2. What data we collect and why

2.1 Data you provide directly

Your postcode or location

When you use the Near Me feature, your postcode is sent to our servers to find nearby petrol stations. If you use the “Locate me” button, your device’s GPS coordinates are sent to our servers in place of a postcode. In both cases:

  • The data is used solely to look up nearby stations for that search.
  • Your selected fuel type is also sent as part of the search request so we can return results for the correct fuel.
  • Search results are cached on our servers for up to 15 minutes to improve performance. This means the postcode or coordinates and fuel type used to generate your results may be temporarily held in server-side cache during that window. The cached data is not linked to any identifier, is not associated with you personally, and is automatically discarded after 15 minutes.
  • It is not used to track you across sessions or combined with any other information that could identify you.

Your route postcodes (Plan a Route feature)

If you use the Plan a Route feature, both your start and destination postcodes are sent to our servers. The same rules apply as above - results are cached for up to 15 minutes to improve performance, the data is not linked to any identifier, and it is automatically discarded after that window.

Feedback form submissions

If you submit feedback via our feedback form (powered by Tally.so), we receive the content of your submission, which may include any personal information you choose to include in your message. This data is used solely to review and respond to feedback. See Section 5 for details of how Tally.so handles this data.

2.2 Data stored locally on your device

The following preferences are saved in your browser’s local storage - not in cookies. They remain on your device only and are never transmitted to our servers or shared with any third party:

  • Tank size (litres)
  • Tank fuel state (full, empty, etc.)
  • MPG setting
  • Dark / light mode preference
  • Advanced options open/closed preference
  • Calulation panel open/closed preference

The following preference is also saved in your browser’s local storage - not in cookies. It is transmitted, along with your postcode as part of the search request so we can return results for the correct fuel:

  • Fuel type preference

You can remove this data at any time by clearing site data for worththedrive.co.uk in your browser settings. Note that the next time you use worththedrive.co.uk and perform a search this data will be saved in browser local storage again.

2.3 Data collected automatically

Cloudflare (infrastructure and network security)

WorthTheDrive is hosted on Cloudflare’s infrastructure. As part of normal network operations, Cloudflare processes IP addresses and network traffic for security, routing, and performance purposes. Cloudflare Analytics - which we use for basic traffic measurement - is cookieless and does not track individuals. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.

Google Analytics 4 (usage analytics)

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site. GA4 may collect:

  • IP address - this may be considered personal data under UK GDPR. We have enabled IP anonymisation, which means Google truncates the IP address before it is stored; the full IP address is never retained by Google or by us.
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Pages visited and time spent on site
  • Approximate geographic location (country and region level only)
  • Referral source (how you arrived at the site)

GA4 data is processed by Google LLC and may be transferred outside the UK (see Section 6). GA4 analytics cookies are only set after you give consent via our cookie banner.

Google AdSense (advertising)

With your consent, we display advertisements on this site provided by Google AdSense. AdSense and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Serve adverts that may be relevant to your interests
  • Measure the performance of advertisements
  • Limit how often you see the same advert

Advertising cookies are only set after you give consent via our cookie banner. If you decline advertising cookies, adverts may still appear but they will not be personalised.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Where changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to bring them to your attention. Continued use of the service following any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
